Designers

The designers who I have chosen or found to inspire me are those who try to combine elements of their culture with their work. The indian culture is filled with rich colours, textures and patterns which are difficult to translate into modern design, the designers that I have chosen seem to have done this effortlessly.

Suhani Pittie

Pittie is a jewellery designer known for combining traditional elements and motifs in a non traditional way. Shes describes her work as jewel art and considers herself to be an Artist rather than a jewellery designer.

In this piece by Suhani Pittie we see the use of the traditional crescent moon motif used in a simple way when compared to traditional Indian neck pieces.

Tarun Tahiliani

Tarun Tahiliani is a clothing designer who describes his work as a combination of  historical opulence and contemporary chic. Above is one of his pieces which perfectly combines Indian pattern and contemporary form.

 Manish Malholta

Fashion designer Manish Malholtra is known for his contemporary yet traditional bridal wear. Above is one of his more simple pieces which perfectly captures the flow of Indian form and fabric in a simplistic design.

Payal Singhal

Singhals pieces are a perfect display of a rich heritage of embroidery, fabric and colour. Her aim is to create clothing that can be worn by the modern Indian women ...she considers her designs to be timeless, sensual but sophisticated at the same time. Above is one of her more extravagant pieces.
